ERASED FROM GOD’S BOOK OF LIFE

Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says,
“Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your
hearts as when they provoked Me, As in the day
of trial in the wilderness here your fathers tried
Me by testing Me, And saw My works for forty years. Therefore I was angry with this generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they
did not know My ways’; As I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ”
Hebrews 3:7-11

--OLD TESTAMENT--

GOD'S PEOPLE LEAVE EGYPT

Exodus 12:37-38 Now the sons of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, aside from children. A mixed multitude also went up with them, along with flocks and herds, a very large number of livestock.

GOD’S PEOPLE BLOTTED FROM THE BOOK

Exodus 32:30-34 On the next day Moses said to the people, “You yourselves have committed a great sin; and now I am going up to the LORD, perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.”  Then Moses returned to the LORD, and said, “Alas, this people has committed a great sin, and they have made a god of gold for themselves.  But now, if You will, forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me out from Your book which You have written!”  The LORD said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book. But go now, lead the people where I told you. Behold, My angel shall go before you; nevertheless in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin.” (Miriam, Aaron, and Moses, with the rest, died in the wilderness. Out of well over 600,000 men, only Joshua and Caleb entered the promised land)

1 Corinthians 10:1-6 For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea; and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; and all ate the same spiritual food; and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ.  Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness. Now these things happened as examples for us, that we should not crave evil things as they also craved.

GOD WARNS HIS PEOPLE OF FURTHER DISCIPLINE

Deuteronomy 29:18-20 “So that there will not be among you a man or woman, or family or tribe, whose heart turns away today from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of those nations; that there will not be among you a root bearing poisonous fruit and wormwood. It shall be when he hears the words of this curse, that he will boast, saying, ‘I have peace though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart in order to destroy the watered land with the dry.’ The LORD shall never be willing to forgive him, but rather the anger of the LORD and His jealousy will burn against that man, and every curse which is written in this book will rest on him, and the LORD will blot out his name from under heaven.”

GOD KEEPS GOOD RECORDS

Psalm 69:26-28 For they have persecuted him whom You Yourself have smitten, and they tell of the pain of those whom You have wounded.  Add iniquity to their iniquity, and may they not come into Your righteousness.  May they be blotted out of the book of life and may they not be recorded with the righteous.

Jeremiah 17:13 O LORD, the hope of Israel, All who forsake You will be put to shame. Those who turn away on earth will be written down, Because they have forsaken the fountain of living water, even the LORD.

Daniel 12:1-3 “Now at that time Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people, will arise. And there will be a time of distress such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time; and at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the book, will be rescued. Many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt. Those who have insight will shine brightly like the brightness of the expanse of heaven, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.

Malachi 3:16-17 Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD gave attention and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the LORD and who esteem His name. “They will be Mine,” says the LORD of hosts, “on the day that I prepare My own possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.”

--NEW TESTAMENT--

THE JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST – REWARD OR LOSS

2 Corinthians 5:8-10 We are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

1 Corinthians 3:13-15 Each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work.  If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward.  If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

Colossians 3:23-25 Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality.

James 2:12-14 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty. For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment. What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? (From the judgment seat of Christ)

GOD DISCIPLINES HIS PEOPLE

Hebrews 12:4-10 You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin;  and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, “MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM;  FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES.”  It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?  But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.  Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?  For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness.

EXAMPLES OF SAINTS BEING DISCIPLINED

1 John 5:16-17 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death.

Luke 1:20 “And behold, you [Zacharias] shall be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my [Gabriel] words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”

Acts 5:9-10 Then Peter said to her, “Why is it that you have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out as well.” And immediately she fell at his feet and breathed her last, and the young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. (Ananias and Sapphira)

1 Corinthians 11:28-31 But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.  For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly.  For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep (died). But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged.

1 Corinthians 5:5 I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

WARNINGS TO CHRISTIANS

Hebrews 3:16-19, 4:1 For who provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses? And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were disobedient? So we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief. Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it.

Hebrews 6:4-6 For in the case of those [Christians] who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame.

Hebrews 10:28-30 Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much severer punishment do you think he [Christian] will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know Him who said, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY.” And again, “THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE.”

Revelation 3:5 “He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.”

UNBELIEVERS ARE NEVER “IN THE BOOK”

Revelation 13:8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him [anti-christ], everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain.

Revelation 17:8 “The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to come up out of the abyss and go to destruction. And those who dwell on the earth, whose name has not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, will wonder when they see the beast, that he was and is not and will come.

Revelation 20:15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Revelation 21:8 “But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

GOD’S PEOPLE WHOSE NAMES HAVE BEEN ERASED

Revelation 21:27 and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it (the new Jerusalem), but only those whose names are [still] written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Revelation 22:18-19 I testify to everyone [Christian] who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and if anyone [Christian] takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book. (Names are erased (blotted) when the Lord Jesus rewards each faithful believer since Creation, Rev. 22:12-15)

REWARDS FOR THE FAITHFUL SAINTS

Revelation 22:12-14  “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.  “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”  Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the [new Jerusalem] city. (They’re not “hurt by the second death” Rev. 2:11, 20:6)

SAINTS WHO SUFFER LOSS

Galatians 5:19-21 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those [Christians] who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Revelation  22:14-15 Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city. Outside [the new Jerusalem] are the [Christian] dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.

THE GOOD NEWS

When Jesus Christ, God in flesh, suffered on the cross and spent three days in Hades, we were not even born. Yet He was paying the Hades penalty we deserve for all of our sins – past, present, and future. When we “believe” this, it applies to us and we receive the free, irrevocable gift of eternal life that cannot be returned (who would want to?) or lost. We have “salvation” from the eternal punishment in Hades we deserve, not “probation!” We are saved by our faith in God’s grace and mercy. We cannot work to get saved or stay saved. Jesus made this very clear in many places. In John 4:10-14 Jesus declares that one drink from His water – the gift of eternal life – and you will “never thirst” again! In John 10:28-29, Jesus promises: “and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. “My Father, who has given them to Me,  is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” You can NEVER lose your salvation! NO ONE, not even yourself, can remove you from eternal life! Jesus suffered and rose from the dead to pay for ALL your sins!

GOD’S WARNINGS FROM THE BIBLE

But if you continue to sin as a true born-again Christian, you will set yourself up for the discipline of your heavenly Father. This could ultimately result in not only loss of rewards, but physical death and/or being erased from God’s book of life. God’s warnings from the Bible, quoted in this booklet, are not to unbelievers, or “false Christians,” but to God’s blood-bought people, Old and New Testament! One of Jesus’ final warnings to His people is; “Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his clothes, so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shame.” Revelation 16:15

MORE GOOD NEWS

If you are a true Christian who is glad to be saved, but you know that only shame awaits you in heaven because of your lifestyle of sin and disobedience; there is hope! In Jeremiah 3:12-13 God states; “…for I am gracious, declares the LORD; I will not be angry forever. Only acknowledge [admit] your iniquity [sin], that you have transgressed against the LORD your God….” In vs. 22, God says; “Return, O faithless sons, I will heal your faithlessness….” This is how we restore our fellowship with God our Father. These verses are not for unbelievers or “false Christians,” but for true eternally secure Christians (saved Israelites in the O. T.) whose hearts are still tender to the convicting work of the Holy Spirit.

Ezekiel 33:14-16 “But when I say to the wicked, ‘You will surely die,’ and he turns from his sin and practices justice and righteousness, if a wicked man restores a pledge, pays back what he has taken by robbery, walks by the statutes which ensure life without committing iniquity, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of his sins that he has committed will be remembered against him. He has practiced justice and righteousness; he shall surely live.

1 John 1:8-9 tells us; “If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess [agree in our heart and admit to God] our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Confess your sins to your Father, and believe His promise to “cleanse you from all unrighteousness.”

If you are not eternally secure, you are not saved! You need to believe the Gospel, that Jesus died for ALL your sins -- past, present, and future! Eternal life is “ETERNAL!”  It is a free, irrevocable, non returnable, gracious gift.

John 5:24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.” --  LORD JESUS
